e-Ship 1 - Fuel Efficient Enercon Ship
The E-Ship 1 is a RoLo cargo ship that made its first voyage in August 2010. The ship is owned by the third-largest wind turbine manufacturer, Germany's Enercon GmbH.

The E-Ship 1 is used to transport wind turbine components. The E-Ship 1 is a Flettner ship:with  four large rotorsails that rise from its deck. The rotorsails are rotated via a mechanical linkage to the ship's propellers. The sails, or Flettner rotors, aid the ship's propulsion by means of the Magnus effect — the perpendicular force that is exerted on a spinning body moving through a fluid stream. Reports say that the Flettner rotors help the ship in saving fuel consumption up to 30-40%. at 16 knots.

Flettner rotors, were first  developed in the 1920s by German engineer Anton Flettner.

The ship also has conventional diesel engines as well. The Exhaust Gas from the diesels is used also in process to generate additional energy.

The 4 Tower design allow for cargo to be easily loaded and off-loaded from the ships, interfering significantly less than sails.
